The 2010 HAND Remembrance Ceremony will be held at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, the location of our monthly meetings, on Sunday, October 3. Further details will be provided in the future.

The Remembrance ceremony is held in the month of October. It is a chance to memorialize our children and hear their names read aloud at least once a year.

H.A.N.D. Remembrance Ceremony

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. In 1989, City of Houston Mayor Kathryn Whitmire, along with mayors from surrounding communities, also proclaimed the month of October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in order to reach more families in the greater Houston area. In 1999, City of Houston Mayor Lee Brown proclaimed October 3rd as H.A.N.D. day in Houston.

In honor of this awareness month, H.A.N.D. parents held their first annual community memorial service on October 29, 1989. At that time, a tree was planted in Bellaire Park as a permanent memorial to all our babies. A special marker was placed by the tree in 1997.
